I love "Down in the River to Pray." However, last year our Associate Pastor did this gorgeous service of remembering one's baptism. She asked the choir to sing "Down in the River to Pray" while the members of the congregation came forward individually to receive a blessing and some water. Our congregation has about 300 members, and averages 150-200 in any given service, and everyone participated in this particular service. So, we sang "Down in the River to Pray" about a million and a half times. Fun and moving, but you can make pretty amazing and varied four part harmony in the context of about 30 minutes on repeat. :)

Hehehe...When I was in China, my team once found a large sheet of paper with the words to "celebrate Jesus" (which are "celebrate Jesus, celebrate," and then some clapping). It had "x24" next to the chorus.

This obviously meant "x 2-4," but we took it as a challenge -- and sang the song as written, repeating the chorus 24 times.

Less interesting harmonies, and less interesting overall than "Down to the River," but pretty funny, anyway.

Hehe.
