The metaphor for myself I chose in Dr. Helen Walker's Advanced Writing class:

The lemon in your iced tea.

The metaphor you use to introduce yourself accompanied by an action repeated all the way around the circle?

I was Jenny on a journey, demonstrated by a step forward and back reminiscent of the Von Trapp children.

I was "Heather the Hermit," which I showed by covering my face with my hands.

No surprise there.

Those are both excellent. Good for us all, not choosing some random, generic geological formation ("Kevin the mountain") or element from nature ("Allison the ocean"; "Sally the tree."). !!!

I especially like the irony of a journey consisting of one step forward, one step back.

My gesture was a semi-circle with the left hand held suspended above the right hand, which was curved as though holding a glass. The "lemon in your iced tea" idea was one of the few in my life I've been really surprised and impressed with. (And I think it suits me.) Not to brag, or anything.

1) And it's things like this, Heather, which make you the namesake of the Heather Ross Gourd Award.

2) Alicia, I am intrigued that both hands in your gesture were shaped the same way. I'm curious - did you squeeze the lemon?

3) Ha. I hadn't even noticed the irony of my action until you pointed it out. Wow. My subconscious knew best, I guess.

The Kangaroo disapproves!

It was a telelogical metaphor, for cripes sake! Whatever way a kangaroos's facing, that's the way it has to go.

As someone who's had half a dozen jobs in three years, this too was prophetic.
