PSQ: What pop culture essay would you most like to read?

I've decided to get myself back in (mental) shape before starting classes at the end of August by writing a critical essay on a pop culture subject.

My first impulse is to finally write up that paper on the depiction of masculinity in Season 1 of Lost -- but that idea is a bajillion years old now, and I'm guessing not too many of my CU readers are keen to read it.

What other shows/subjects would you rather read about? Any questions on pop culture you demand answers to?

Homework me.

a post-colonial reading of BSG?

no, no masculinity in Friday Night Lights! you can hulu that one, you'd get tons of material, and i seriously doubt that it's been done. good as it is, no one on earth watches that show.

well, i'd be pleased with either one, really, but especially the second.

BEN.

Dangit.

I was just looking at FNL at the Target yesterday and telling PC "I don't know -- people say this is a really great show, but I don't think I'm that interested in watching a show about football."

And now you suggest THIS.

Fine. FINE. I'll see what I can do.

(Of course, any other suggestions are also welcome.)

Since I know how much you love Disney...

Perhaps something on the tween scene as dominated by Disney - especially all the little singers/actors. In fact, there's an article in the NYT about one of them: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/19/arts/music/19cara.html?scp=2&sq=disney&st=cse

I read that article on Demi, actually. I do a surprising amount of reading of People these days -- it's part of my job, bizarrely.

Well, it's not officially part of my job, but I have to read SOMEthing, and there are so many magazines just sitting there at those stores.

Everything I know about Disney (Eisner era) is now outdated. I'm not sure I could pull that off. But I'll think about it.

well, if you do decide to go with FNL (nudge, hint) you'll probably find, as i did, that it's as much about football as buffy was about going to high school.

in other words, kind of, but not really, except that it provides a certain atmosphere. not the same atmosphere, but backdrop nonetheless. mostly, FNL's a show about families. and a pretty great one at that.

move over, jenny d!
