that's the women's prison in CT. i;m in the area once or twice a month...and while waiting for visits to start there, it's definitely a good time to hang out and look at the water.
I always thought it was interesting to have a prison across from the beach, and Rocky Neck has long been my favorite. I mean, rock jetty and big stone pavillion? Yay.
Now I think it's interesting that the Gold Coast of CT keeps its "good" beaches, like Greenwich, closed to outsiders -- that is, people who can't afford to buy real estate in Greenwich -- but don't seem to have any problem with Rocky Neck (being a state park, I think) being open to the public...thanks to the prison (also on state property)? Letting the riff-raffs mingle??
The hypocrises of the state do sometimes work in our favor, though. : )
the class issues are fascinating; however, there's a huge part of rocky neck that's actually a private beach, and the last couple of times that i was there, i had to work pretty hard to find the public part of the beach. very strange.
